Blessing of the Pets
Posted: 10/4/2019

On October 4, we celebrated the feast day of the patron saint of animals, Saint Francis of Assisi, with our Blessing of the Pets service. This is a well-loved Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic School tradition that is hosted by our fifth grade class. In preparation for the celebration, the fifth graders surveyed the student body and staff to determine what types of pets they own and how many of each. It was fun to see the variety of pets, from cats and dogs to lizards and frogs! The students used data analysis skills to chart and graph their results. Fifth grade chorus calmed the cacophony of barks and meows with their beautiful singing of "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" and "Make me a Channel of Your Peace." After the morning's blessing, students in every grade level participated in service projects around the school in honor of St. Francis and his love of nature.
