Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic School serves students from Kindergarten through 8th grade. We are located in Sandy Springs, Georgia off of Georgia 400. Founded in 1962 as part of Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, the school serves as an extension of, and aid to, the parents of its students in forming citizens willing and able to serve God and live as useful members of society. The school is guided by the educational mission of the Church, which embraces three interrelated dimensions: message, service and community. Bishop Francis Hyland who appointed Reverend John Stapleton as founder and first pastor established Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church on October 1, 1960. Members of the Spalding family donated ten and one-half acres of land at Spalding Drive and Glenridge Drive in Sandy Springs and construction began on the building that would serve as the school and temporary church. With Monsignor Stapleton assuming the role of principal, September 4, 1962 marked the official opening of the St. Jude Parish School, with kindergarten through grade 4, staffed by five lay teachers. The first 150 students occupied the west corridor of the building while the east corridor served as a temporary church. In 1963, the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart of Philadelphia sent four of their own to staff the school. A religious community established by Canadian-born Saint Marguerite d’Youville, these nuns had a strong commitment to education. With the arrival of the sisters, all 8 grades were staffed, and Sister Francis Maureen, GNSH was appointed principal. The first class - of 18 students - graduated in June 1964. The Grey Nuns staffed the school faculty and administration through the 1970s, and under their direction the school received its initial accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in 1973. Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic School continues to enjoy full accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The school is a member of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA), Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA), Atlanta Area Association of Independent Schools (AAAIS), National middle School Association, Georgia Middle School Association, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and the Southern Assocation of Independent Schools (SAIS). St. Jude is proud to have been selected as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Together with the family, the faculty and staff provide an atmosphere for moral development. Christian values, our Catholic beliefs and traditions, and a spirit of cooperation are the cornerstones of our program. Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic School is dedicated to the formation of students willing and able to serve God and the world by providing the guidance and instruction necessary to motivate students toward goals commensurate with their abilities. All students are instructed in the core curriculum, which includes: religion, reading, literature, grammar, spelling, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. In addition, all students receive instruction in the enrichment programs, which include: art, computer science, music, physical education, and Spanish. Students are offered, and encouraged to embrace, additional activities and leadership opportunities. Some of these include the Student Council, Drama Club, Safety Patrol, Life Teen Band, Altar Servers, Oratorical Competition, Math Super Stars, and the Middle School Advisor-Advisee Program. Our school population is approximately 500 students, kindergarten through 8th grade. There are two homerooms in grades k 5, 7 & 8, and three homerooms in grade 6.
