Spiritual Life

“Ask and you shall receive”

At Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic School, we are fortunate to be part of a school community where there are programs in place that provide multiple opportunities to enrich our faith and to serve others. Following is a brief overview of the Saint Jude PTA Spiritual Life Ministries.

For more information, please contact Elaine Dolt at thedolts@comcast.net or Pamela Akumabor at

Adopt-A-Seminarian: Each class is assigned a seminarian(s) to pray for during the year – a photograph and an address for correspondence are also included.

Elijah Cup: Each class has the opportunity to display the Elijah Cup and pray for vocations.

Middle School Live Your Faith: Special activities and talks taken from the LifeTeen Edge program anchor these quarterly sessions. When appropriate, special speakers may be invited to address and interact with the students.

Seasonal (K-5): Parents volunteer in each classroom to prepare and execute special lessons that enhance the religious program. Lessons vary depending on the grade, but topics include saints, Advent, Lent, Stations of the Cross, virtues, parables, and Old and New Testament study.

Service Projects: Each grade has an age-appropriate service project ranging from the kindergarten toy drive to feeding the homeless.

Student Prayers: All students have the opportunity to write and read a prayer during the morning news show.

St. Francis Program: Parents lead this outdoor education program that focuses on God's creation and the stewardship of our natural world.  Students participate in school-wide gardening and beautification activities in October on the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi.  Grades K-5 continue beyond St. Francis Day, as parent volunteers present additional lessons throughout the school year that build upon existing science and religion curricula.

Sunshine: Parent volunteers in each class coordinate assistance for the families of students or teachers in time of illness or crisis. Assistance varies with each situation, but may include providing meals and/or childcare.

Adoration: Tuesdays during the school year from 8AM – 6PM; volunteers commit to 30-minute time slots. Adoration is peaceful, worthwhile time spent with our Lord.

Family Advent Caroling: Carolers spread holiday cheer in December while singing traditional Christmas carols. This is a memorable way for families to prepare hearts and homes for Christ’s birth.

Fathers & Faith: These early morning programs (7:30AM – 8:30AM) are geared toward dads and held in the Ministries Building. All Dads are encouraged to take advantage of these faith-building opportunities.

Spiritual Life Kick Off: An opportunity for the school moms to begin a new school year with breakfast and fellowship followed by a speaker.

May Crowning: This beautiful ceremony honoring Mary takes place during the first week of May.

Mothers' Retreat: A special half-day retreat for all school moms that focuses on prayer, reconciliation, Mass, and fellowship.

Parent Rosary: Prayer is the greatest gift we can give each other. Our parent rosaries are prayed twice a month. The intentions of the Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic School students, staff, and families are lifted up during each Rosary.
